The use of biotherapeutic molecules in the cosmetic industry is growing and consumers are becoming increasingly familiar with buzzwords like “stem cells”, “exosomes” and “polynucleotides”, which were traditionally confined to medical and pharmaceutical settings. |

As a result of this trend, there has been an increase in the number of patent applications being filed across the globe in the field of “biotherapeutic cosmetics”. |

In the first article of this two-part series, Partner Samantha Moodie and Associate Clare Pratt highlight the most popular biotherapeutic molecules being used in cosmetics, examine data demonstrating the increase of related active published patent filings, and provide advice on how to best utilise IP in this increasingly competitive industry.
